Dr. Alexander Thomas Bestowed Prestigious IMA Recognition
New Delhi, December 19, 2024. In an important moment for the Indian healthcare community, Dr. Alexander Thomas has been honored with the Professor Emeritus title by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). Established in 1928, the IMA is the largest professional body of doctors in the world. The recognition celebrates Dr. Thomas’s exceptional contributions to healthcare quality, accreditation, and education in India.
In his citation, Dr. R.V. Asokan, National President of IMA, commended Dr. Thomas’s visionary leadership and pioneering efforts in reshaping the nation’s healthcare system. “Dr. Alexander Thomas has been instrumental in founding and advancing organizations such as the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI), the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO), and the Association of National Board Accredited Institutions (ANBAI), among others. His vision and dedication have significantly transformed healthcare systems, ensuring these institutions work cohesively under the IMA’s leadership for the greater good,” he said.
The citation also highlighted Dr. Thomas’s pivotal role in establishing new standards for healthcare quality and patient safety. “Through his initiatives, Dr. Thomas has fostered collaboration among healthcare professionals and enhanced patient care standards across the nation. His work exemplifies the highest ideals of the medical profession and serves as an enduring source of inspiration,” Dr. Asokan added.
Dr. Thomas’s contributions extend beyond healthcare reform. A prolific author, he has written groundbreaking books on critical topics such as climate change and artificial intelligence in medicine, providing invaluable resources for medical professionals and researchers alike.
This recognition from the IMA comes alongside two other significant honors for Dr. Thomas. Earlier this year, he was appointed Adjunct Professor at the Public Health Foundation of India. Last month, the Government of Karnataka conferred upon him the Suvarna Mahostav Award, acknowledging his outstanding contributions to healthcare excellence in the state.
